Jihan Wu: The Villain

This cartoon was commissioned by Coindesk for their year-end Most Influential People in Crypto 2017 feature. Check out their writeup on Jihan Wu here.

It says a lot that in the one year that I’ve been drawing crypto-cartoons, this is the FOURTH time I’ve cartooned Jihan Wu. (See Antpool Switches to Bitcoin Unlimited in March, Madonna of the Bitcoin Miners in May, and A Scary BCH Weekend from November.)

Perturbed as I am by Mr. Wu, I will admit that the things that he and his compatriots have pulled off with Bitcoin Cash is truly something for the record books. If nothing else, they’ve changed the way we think about forks by (perhaps unintentionally) popularizing the whole “initial fork offering” strategy.

I’m not a BCH fan, and thus live in perpetual fear of Wu’s machinations. I’ve always imagined him like a naughty little trickster god, planning his next move deep in his cavernous Bitcoin mining facility. This cartoon is probably the most straightforward visualization I’ve yet done, although in terms of weird imagery, I still like Baby Jihan the most.
