No scifi geek grows up in the 80s and 90s without a deep affection for Robert Zemeckis’ classic time travel trilogy. I’ve referenced it once before as part of my $10,000 Bitcoin milestone poster, but I figured it was ok to do so again for Eric’s portrait.
I flipflopped on whether or not Eric should be portrayed as Doc or Marty, but eventually decided that it was his inventiveness that was important. Drawing him in mid-step as he’s stepping out of the Delorean seemed like a fun moment … like he’s just come back from the future with a bunch of crazy new ideas.
(That, and I wasn’t quite sure if I could make him look good as Marty on a hoverboard.)
Integrating the Shapeshift logo into Doc’s intensely weird future shirt was a lot of fun too.
